Headlines for 15 May 2017

Hinds County inmate Jackie Goodin has been recaptured.  He was taken into custody at a motel on Highway 80 in Jackson this morning.  He and inmate Michael McGlothin escaped from a work detail feeding livestock in Raymond Sunday afternoon.  Anyone with information on McGlothin's whereabouts is asked to contact the CrimeStoppers Hotline at (601) 355-8477 (TIPS).

The funeral service for the late track star Kaelin Kersh was held in the Performing Arts Center of Pearl High School Sunday.  She graduated from Mississippi State on May 5, 2017 and on May 7, 2017 she died in a two vehicle crash at Mayhew Road and Highway 182 near Starkville.

A lawsuit has been filed against a Mississippi funeral home by an 82 year old man who charges that it refused to cremate his husband, saying it did not, "deal with their kind."  John Zawadski is seeking damages from the Picayune Funeral Home for breach of contract and emotional distress.  Zawadski charges that the funeral home verbally agreed to carry out the services for his husband, Robert Huskey, in May 2016, but backed out once Huskey died after finding out that he was gay.  The family had to go 90 miles away to find another provider to carry out the cremation, and had to cancel Huskey's memorial because of it.  The funeral home denies the claims.  Zawadski and Huskey had been together since 1965, retired in Picayune in 1997, and were legally married in July 2015, weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized gay marriage nationwide.
